About Braai Life
A braai is a South African wood or charcoal fire, and the meal and the afternoon that happen around it.
Braai Life collects the recipes that belong on that fire: boerewors, sosaties, chops, potjiekos, braaibroodjies and the sides that go with them. Every recipe says how hot the coals should be and how to tell when the food is done, because those are the two things a recipe usually leaves out.
How the recipes are written
- Quantities are given in metric and US measures.
- Each recipe is marked hot, medium or low coals. Reading your coals explains how to tell which you have.
- Where a South African ingredient is hard to find elsewhere, the recipe names a substitute.
- Meat temperatures follow the safe minimum temperatures for meat, poultry and fish.
